These are some of the photos that I edited for the glitch art project. The first one is just a simple photo of a lake that I took. Then, the next photo is the one that I edited using Text Edit. When using this, a code comes up on the screen and I had to copy one section of the code and paste it throughout the rest of it. This change the photo and in my case added some colorful, horizontal line through it. I liked the way it came out because there are colors in the line that aren't in the actual picture. For my last edit, I made it look glitchy using Photoshop. I drew long rectangle and picked them up and placed them in different spots. As a result there are many white spaces and it makes the picture look like it is messed up. It reminded of a bar code and I thought that it looked really cool.

My NameAll 26For this project I went around to different places in the school and looked for letters in different shapes. You had to take the picture at different angles for some of the letters to work and with the very difficult ones I had to take a picture of text. Then, I put all of the letters into Google Drive and organized them.
Making this gradient painting was a very long process. First, I had to get a picture that I liked and thought would look good when edited. Then, I brought the photo into photoshop and changed to look splotchy and monochromatic. I looked through many different colors and finally decided that a monochromatic purple would look the best. Next, I projected the image and traced it onto a large piece of paper. After, numbering the shades based on the shade of purple, I finally got to paint. I started with the darkest shade of purple and kept on adding white paint until I got to the lightest. I made sure that any areas that needed another layer got it and checked to see if there were any white spots. After I was satisfied with the way it looked, I finished my painting.
Digital Photography and Advanced Computer Art was my first choice for an elective when we were picking them last year. Now, after completing half of the course, I can easily say that I'm happy that I chose it. I've learned how to do many new things in photoshop and I've got to take many photos. I would say that my favorite assignment that we have had so far would be the shadow photography. This project was rather open-ended and you really had to be creative when doing it. I enjoyed looking for shadows in my everyday life that I could take pictures of and tried to use the element of mystery in my photos. I made it difficult to tell what the shadow was cast from and it was fun figuring out how to do that.
As for the most valuable thing that I have learned so far, I would have to say that it is elements and principles of art. In this assignment we have to take one element like space, color, or texture and combine it with a principle like pattern, variety, or symmetry. I thought this project was really helpful because these are things that you should keep in mind every time you take a picture and I had never really understood what they meant until I did this assignment. Also, I used these skills often in following assignments when I want my photo to look less boring. I will think about the symmetry of the picture or if I want to have one object in emphasis. Learning about these elements and principles has helped me a lot so and and will continue to help me for as long as I'm taking pictures. If there was any project that I could revisit and improve upon, I think I would choose the twelve days of photoshop. We only had two days to do each of these assignments and I feel like if I had more time to work on them, the quality could have improved greatly. Also, there is so many things that you can do in photoshop and I wish that I learned some more of them so my projects looked a little better. For example, in one assignment we were told to slice an object in half and put a different object in the middle. I chose to do many different kinds of apples and the end result looked okay but I could've made in look more realistic with more time. As we begin the second half of this course, there are a couple things that I would like to explore in the future. Since there is so much of photoshop that I don't understand, I would like to spend more time learning about it. In time, I think I could create some really cool projects on the application and I hope to do that in the second semester. Another thing that I look forward to learning about is the settings on my camera. I want to know how to control aperture settings and change the focus but right now that doesn't really make sense to me. Once I learn those kinds of things, I believe I will start using the camera to take photos for my assignments instead of my iPhone. I will be taking many new photos and designing many new kinds of art in the second half of the school year and I am looking forward to see what I will come up with. For my first point of view project I used the antonyms clever and foolish and I used a picture of someone doing a flip and a picture of someone working on their computer. I thought these images worked well together because they could be considered both clever and foolish. It is clever to work on your computer because you are being productive and it is foolish to do flips because you may injure yourself. On the other hand, it is foolish to spend endless time working on your computer because you won't get exercise or enjoy your life and it is clever to do things like flips because you are enjoying yourself and getting exercise. Two tips that I used from "How to take great photos" were minding the lines and taking lots of photos. I didn't have the flip centered because I believe it looked better and for the computer photo I took it from all different angels until I got one that I liked. For my second point of view project I chose to use the word love and I took a picture of two people holding hands, my younger cousin, and my puppy kissing my other dog. I wanted to express that love can be present in many different ways. For example, two people, a mother and her daughter, or simply a puppy.
I like the way my photos came out because I feel like they are creative and different. I did something different for each of my pictures. For the first one, I just opened all of the cabinets in my bathroom. For the second one, I just positioned a mirror on my bed. The third one was taken in a car mirror and the fourth was in an ornament that is hanging in my room. I planned to do my photos like this because I thought it would be more creative. Also, I think the photo that represents me the most is the one with the Christmas lights because I look very happy in it and it is the clearest image of me. I believe the difference between a selfie and a self portrait would be that a portrait is made to be considered a work of art taken by a professional photographer or painted by an artist, while a selfie is just a quick snap.
I really enjoyed doing the selfie project because I finally started to understand Adobe Photoshop. I just found some pictures I took of my favorite things and put them into the application. I put in fireworks, my puppies, ice cream, Christmas lights, and palm trees. Then, I erased all of edges and put them into one page. I also put in a selfie that I took awhile ago. Finally, I just moved things around and change their opacities until I liked it.
I made my paper lantern by designing shapes on Adobe Illustrator using the pen tool and then printing it out. Next, I used a X Acto knife to cut the shapes out and folded them so they stood up. When I took the pictures of it lying flat, I tried to make the cutouts look like the shadows. After folding it and stapling it, I took pictures at many different angles to make it look cool and different. |
